b) locating and describing the major events and turning points of the war in Europe and the Pacific”
Students will be able to identify major reasons for D-Day, recognize its defining features, and describe its consequences.
Purpose of the Lesson:
This lesson will introduce D-Day as an example of a pivotal event that changed the course of World War II in Europe. It will familiarize students with basic details surrounding D-Day while increasing their understanding of its historical significance.
Activity:
The teacher will use a Smartboard to display a PowerPoint presentation consisting of four slides. The first slide will contain a list of bullet points with an overview of D-Day. It will include a concise definition of this term, the date on which D-Day commenced (June 6, 1944), and specific causes for the invasions. The second slide will feature additional bullet points with details regarding the logistics of D-Day. It will specify the approximate number of American soldiers involved, their missions, their destinations, and their accomplishments. The third slide will focus on American leaders involved in D-Day. It will include digital images of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and some renowned American generals. The fourth slide will be dedicated to the legendary General Dwight D. Eisenhower and his famous invasion statement. The teacher will click the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv2Wi-hFlJ8. This video contains an original audio recording of the general delivering his speech in addition to authentic video footage of American soldiers embarking on the D-Day invasions.
At the completion of this video, which lasts two minutes and five seconds, the teacher will turn off the Smartboard and instruct students to use their laptops to proceed individually to www.quizizz.com. This website allows teachers to create personalized interactive assessments. Students will log onto the site and access a customized quiz designed previously by the teacher. They will have ten minutes to independently answer five questions related to the material they encountered on the Smartboard. After completing the quiz, students will logout of their Quizizz accounts and await grading and feedback from the teacher.
Students will be provided with copies of Eisenhower’s D-Day statement and asked to place them in their notebooks.
Assessment:
The teacher will use his or her personal Quizizz account to access each student’s answers. After reading each response and calculating total quiz scores, the teacher will indicate to students which questions they missed. Each incorrect answer or insufficient response will be accompanied with an explanation regarding why points were deducted. This will enable students to identify the inadequacies in their understanding and improve their comprehension before the unit test.

Chat Tool
The collaborative chat tool that my partner and I used was Skype. After utilizing and evaluating this communicative tool, I have identified both advantages and disadvantages to using Skype in the future with students.
Positives of this chat tool were:
One positive aspect of Skype lies within its facilitation of both verbal and visual communication. In addition to hearing chat partners, Skype enables users to see one another’s faces. This capacity enhances communication significantly by allowing users to read body language and facial expressions. A second advantage of Skype is its capability of hosting group chats. The program enables multiple individuals to participate in the same conversation. This system also allows users to send typed messages and video messages. Additionally, it includes helpful features such as a timer that enables users to monitor the length of their conversations. Another advantage of Skype lies within its simplicity. After adding an individual to one’s list of contacts, the user can click on the person’s name and choose whether to initiate an audio or video call. When receiving an audio or video call, the computer produces a ringing sound comparable to a telephone. The user can then choose whether to accept or decline the call. After logging into one’s account, the program informs the user of any missed calls or messages. In these ways, Skype reveals itself to be refreshingly user friendly.
Negatives of using this chat tool were:
Serving to counterbalance these positive elements, Skype demonstrates several noteworthy drawbacks. For instance, the picture and sound quality of video calls is often less than ideal. Users sometimes experience difficulties hearing and understanding one another’s words. It can also be challenging to maintain visual contact with chat partners while simultaneously accessing other windows. This limitation can impede collaborative endeavors when projects require students to access websites or take notes in a Word document. Also worth mentioning is that connection is occasionally lost and video calls are dropped. Similar to most forms of technology, Skype can be temperamental at times.
